Today's Daily Dose is an open source roll playing game called Battle for Wesnoth. This game is a turn-based RPG akin to many other popular action-based RPGs like Warcraft. As an open source project, the game has been developed for multiple platforms including Mac OS X, Windoze, and Linux. Fortunately, the game has advanced multi-player options, including network play, so all of these platform choices mean you can play against any of your friends, regardless of what platform they have. When we logged on to the public server, there were several active games happening online that users could join.
All in all, Battle for Wesnoth appears to be a very mature, sophisticated, and easy to play RPG. If you've never tried an RPG before, this is a great chance to get your hands dirty for FREE! There are clearly a large number of existing users out there, so if you're looking to play against others or get your friends involved, that should be easy enough.
